Our story

Made here.
For curious people everywhere.

Northword is a small collection of daily games made in Canada, with the whole world in mind.

We like the small ritual of a good puzzle: a few minutes to think differently, connect a few dots and learn something you weren’t looking for.

These aren’t simply Canadian trivia games. Canadian places, stories and spelling belong here naturally, alongside science, wordplay, art and culture from around the world. Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and everywhere else all have a place at the table.

Local knowledge can make a great puzzle. It just shouldn’t quietly masquerade as universal knowledge.

We like American culture. We simply don’t assume every player lives there. The same goes for Canada: a regional reference should be an interesting discovery, not an invisible requirement for joining in.

A little challenge. Something to take away.

Groups asks you to find connections. Five brings five questions from a wide world. Timeline gives you four moments and a little historical perspective. Every game comes with answers and explanations, because the discovery is part of the fun.

This is our first prototype. No account, no stopwatch, no pressure. Your progress is saved in this browser. New daily editions roll over at midnight Atlantic time (America/Halifax); while we’re trying things out, sample puzzles fill the gaps.
